Hot hot hot – the perfect time for a rest day with our tent two feet from a brilliantly swimmable lake…

About to roll through and out of Bern
Along the Aare again
On our way out of the city we managed to break a chain – amazingly it happened right next to a bike shop and caused barely half an hour’s delay!
Mostly scenic tracks and quiet lanes, with a few vicious ascents
Some bits of non-cyclable nonsense to keep things interesting – this one needed two adults per loaded bike (very sweaty)
Lakeside pitch living up to its billing for once
Much time was spent in the lake
With occasional breaks for ice cream
Also much sitting in the shade and looking at the view (night and day)
Forest picnic wander
Friendly ducks (also ducklings, swans, coots, dragonflies, bats and even a hedgehog snuffling round our tent)
Bistro dinner for a treat
