Further into the mountains…

Short but scenic roll into Hergiswil to visit the quirky but excellent glass museum
Complete with programmable water fountain in the lake, playground-size marble run, giant sandpit and…

Shopping in Stans then a couple of stiff climbs, including up to the night’s campsite on a farm halfway up a hill
DIY black forest gateau to celebrate making it to the top
A few heavy showers in the evening but managed a dry dinner

We enjoyed watching the parapentes landing in the lake
Fireworks – the echoes from the surrounding mountains were amazing!

Dry enough for a late evening lake wander – still drizzling
About to cycle off into the rain – nice weather for ducks
It rained solidly all day, which we were assured is very un-Swiss. Luckily this coincided with the first of our visits to friends, who knew all the dry places in Baar to entertain kids and drink coffee. We we very glad not to have to put up the already sodden tent in yet more rain later!
The next day was thankfully nearly all dry as we lake-hopped from the Zugersee to the Vierwaldstättersee
All that being towed is very tiring

It was a beautiful evening so after tea we went for a cycle/run along the lakeshore, making the most of the sun while it lasts

North Shields – IJmuiden – Amsterdam – Zürich – Türlersee

We seem to have been to a lot of places already – but not all by bike as our transport to Switzerland involved both an overnight ferry and the Nightjet overnight train. We’re now at our first campsite trying to dodge the torrential thunderstorms rolling through! Forecast is looking pretty wet for the next few days – a bit of a contrast from our sunny Bretagne tour last year, so we’ll see how we hold up.

We managed to lose Claire’s (carefully selected) small cuddly in the North Sea, whereupon the DFDS crew very kindly but slightly inconveniently replaced it with a large bear
